Welcome Back! Don’t Learn Safety By Accident
It seems like only yesterday we were thinking about all of the fun things that we were going to accomplish over the summer. The trips we were going to take. The landscaping we were going to finish. The weight we were going to lose… How’d you do? How was Disneyland? You get that new patio installed? Throw away your old jeans? Yes? No? Regardless, it’s time to either cinch up or get a bigger belt and emotionally prepare yourself for 2025-2026.
First: SafeSchools. It’s open! The wildly popular online training program is back and better than ever! As usual, WCSD Risk will provide lunch to the first elementary, intermediate, middle and high school that are the first to complete their training. Get on it! Likewise, all employees that complete their training before August 31, 2025 will be put into a drawing for one of two iPads. BE ADVISED: beginning this school year, classified employees will no longer be compensated for training performed outside of contract time. Supervisors should ensure that all personnel are given ample time between July 1, 2025 and January 15, 2026 to get their training done during contract days. Employees that choose to do their training during non contract time must be aware that they will not receive additional compensation for completing their training outside of contract time. The SafeSchools program can be accessed HERE.
Second: This year’s safety campaign has been chosen, designed and published. The Don’t Learn Safety By Accident campaign will have us focusing back on our workplace injuries this year. We had a total of 72 total injuries during 2024-2025. It was a relatively good year for us. Among other things, our safety material this year will focus on the causes of workplace injuries, the most common injury types, and the job types most prone to accidents.
Finally: this month’s Safety Survey has been posted and is available HERE. You should take it. It only takes 30 seconds. It’s only 1 question. And like a dinner date with me – you feel better about yourself after it’s over. Likewise, if you see any safety hazards please snap a picture and send it over! We’ll get on it.
I look forward to another year working alongside you, and preaching the gospel of bloodborne pathogen exposure. Welcome back!
