Dear Parents and Guardians

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I am thrilled to inform you that the new school year at HHS is off to a fantastic start! Our enrollment has exceeded expectations by nearly 60 students, presenting us with some wonderful challenges. Our halls and classrooms are bustling with eager learners, and we couldn’t be happier to see your students each day.

Last year, we asked for your support in preparing and encouraging participation in our end-of-level testing, which also serves as ACT preparation. I’m pleased to report that our efforts yielded remarkable results: nearly 90% of our students participated, a significant increase from the previous year’s 65%. This high participation rate allows us to evaluate test data collaboratively as teacher teams, enabling us to enhance our instructional practices effectively.

This summer, we received the test data, and our dedicated teacher teams have been diligently analyzing it to refine our teaching strategies. I’d like to share some impressive growth scores with you, which reflect how much improvement your child made in a school year. To give you context:

  • A 40% growth is considered a normal year’s growth.
  • A 50% growth is recognized as very good.
  • A 65% or higher growth is considered AWESOME.

With that in mind, here are our results:

  • Math 10: Achieved a 65% growth score, a 15% increase from last year, doubling the growth of the highest-scoring school in St. George.
  • Language Arts 10: Scored a 54% growth, showing a 16% improvement from the previous year, again leading the St. George schools.
  • Science: Attained a 66% growth score, a remarkable 17% increase from last year, demonstrating significant progress, again outpacing the St. George schools.

These growth scores are a testament to the dedication of our faculty and the hard work of our students. We are deeply committed to fostering academic growth and providing enriching learning opportunities for all our students.

As we continue to refine our curriculum and instructional practices, your ongoing support is invaluable. Thank you for entrusting us with your children’s education and for being partners in their academic journey. Hurricane High School is truly an exceptional place of learning, and I am personally grateful for the opportunity to serve your children alongside our outstanding faculty.

Warm regards,

Daniel McKeehan
