Letter to parents 10/21/2024

Dear HHS Families,

As we move into the second quarter, I want to share some key data from last quarter, which highlights the importance of both academic performance and participation in extracurricular activities (clubs, athletics, choir, orchestra, dance, band etc…). We have been tracking GPA, absences, tardies, and credits earned, and here’s a summary of the data:

Extracurricular Students:

  • Total Students: 479 (40% of student body)
  • Average GPA: 3.44
  • Average Absences: 3
  • Average Tardies: 4

Non-Extracurricular Students:

  • Total Students: 709 (60% of student body)
  • Average GPA: 2.77
  • Average Absences: 10
  • Average Tardies: 9

While we are proud of our students’ achievements, we have noticed a significant difference in performance between those involved in extracurricular activities and those who are not. Participation in activities contributes to higher GPAs and better attendance. We strongly encourage all students to find a club, school organization or other options to be involved.

We also see a growing concern regarding tardiness, particularly at the start of the day and after lunch. Please take a moment to discuss the importance of punctuality with your student. Arriving on time ensures they can fully participate in learning and prevents disruptions for others. At HHS, our mission is to “Prepare Students for Life,” and timeliness is a key life skill that translates directly to success in the working world.

Thank you for your support as we work together to prepare our students for life.

Sincerely,

Daniel McKeehan
